Chuck was born in Ireton, Iowa on October 7, 1939 to Raymond DeWeerd and
Grace DeWeerd (née Leusink). Chuck’s mother passed away when he was 18 months old. He
went to live with Aunt and Uncle for the next several years. At age 7 he went back to living with
his father and 4 siblings. They worked as sharecroppers and moved often. Charles dropped out
of school in 8th grade working part time jobs in a bowling ally, driving for a car dealer, and
work-hand on a ranch. He later received his GED.
Chuck joined the military in December, 1961 at the age of 21; achieving the rank of Sargent-
Major. He served in Korea, Vietnam, and 3 tours in Germany. Chuck received awards for Good
Service, Meritorious Service and a Bronze Star. Chuck spent much of his service life in the AG
office working in Personal and Administration. Serving a total, of 28 years.
Chuck met the love of his life, Janet at a square dance. They married on January 2, 1982 and
spent 43 wonderful years together. They began traveling during his last tour in Germany and
saw much of Europe. Their travel continued after his retirement and return to the United
States. Many hours were spent in the motor home, traveling across the United States . Their
last years of travel included cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, and Bahamas.
Chuck was predeceased by his son, Jefferson E Davis, his parents Raymond DeWeerd and Grace
Leusink DeWeerd, brothers John and Henry and sisters Trina and Harriet.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Janet Dee DeWeerd (née Anderson) of Copperas Cove, Tx.,
Daughter-in-law, Sherri Lynn Davis of Irving, TX; son David Dwight Davis and wife Irina
Kaydalova of Troy, TX; daughter Deborah Lynn Wynn and husband Jerry of Apache Junction, AZ;
Debrah Ann Cooney of Huffman TX; Dwayne Kevin DeWeerd and wife Jennifer of Sanford,
Florida; and Darla King and husband Ryan of San Clarita, CA.; 11 Grandchildren Jonathan Eric
Davis (Bethany), Krystle Cooney (Roman Chenault), Sabrina Danielle Kerr (David), Tara Elizabeth
Lange (Rick), Joshua Ryan Bartee (Erin), Amanda Littlewood, Heather Metelski (Mark), Ashley
Renee Willcox (Christopher), Kayla Ann-Marie DeWeerd, Logan King, and Ella King. Charles had
24 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Friday, February 21st at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Killeen, TX from
5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 22nd at St. Andrews UMC, Killeen, TX at 11:00
am.
In lieu of flowers the family requested donations be sent to St. Andrews UMC, Killeen, TX or to
St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
