Barbara June Stodghill Summers

She grew up on the farm, graduating from Mart High School in 1951 and TCU in 1955. Barbara married Elmer Summers on August 13, 1955. To this union were born a son, Paul Ray Summers, and a daughter Dee Anne Summers.

Barbara began her professional career at General Dynamics as an Aero Physics Engineer shortly after marriage. In four years they moved to Killeen, TX to begin their careers as educators. Throughout her career she taught at KISD, CTC, UMHB, API, and Pikes Peak. She retired from Killeen High School in 1999.

She did various volunteer work to include Bell County, TX for Democratic Woman Association, Retired Texas and Killeen Teachers Associations, First Christian Church, and Killeen Families in Crisis. Barbara was one of the founders of the Rape Crisis Center. She was a member of the Modern Study Club, NOW, and numerous environmental organizations.

Surviving Barbara are her husband of 57 years, Elmer; her son Paul of Dallas; her daughter Dee Anne Summers Fischer and husband Robby of Killeen; her brother Robert Dwain Stodghill, Sr. and wife, Louise, of Granbury; her sister Verna Myrae La Strapes and husband Charles of Mart. She has two grandsons, Tyler Summers and Ross Fischer of Killeen. Other survivors include 3 nephews, 1 niece, 1 great niece, and 4 great nephews.

The family invites friends to attend a visitation at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas on October 29th from 5-7 in the evening.
