Albert served and retired from the United States after a successful and distinguished 21 year career. Upon retiring from the Army, he continued his service by working for the City of Killeen. He retired from both the City of Killeen and the Ft. Hood Officer's Club.
He met the love of his life, Ryoko (Betty Sawyer) at the Ft. Hood Officer's Club. They were married for 41 years. They both were very active members of the SGI Nichiren Buddhism.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Ryoko Sawyer of Killeen, Texas; his sons, Albert Sawyer IV and Bruce Ross, both of Killeen, Texas.
Left to cherish his memories is his daughter, Pam Ross (Rebecca Freels) of Cedar Park, Texas; Sister, Sharon Stewart of Portland, Maine; 3 Grandchildren, Jessica McElroy (Tommy) of Austin, Texas; Albert Edward Sawyer V (Charlotte) of San Antonio, Texas; Laurie Ann Levengood (Chris) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Great Grandchildren, Jamie McElroy of Austin, Texas; Albert Edward Sawyer VI of San Antonio; Trevor Owen Sawyer of San Antonio; Emma Rose Levengood of San Antonio; Landon Michael Levengood, of San Antonio, and long-time friend Jonn Spielman of Killeen, Texas for the sincere care and assistance he gave to Albert in his time of need.
We would also like to thank the 4th floor ICU Nurses and Staff for their care and dedication to taking care of Albert.
A Visitation for Albert will be held Monday, May 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. A Service will occur Monday, May 20, 2024 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home at 12:00 PM followed by a Committal Service with Full Military Honors at 2:00 PM at Killeen City Cemetery.
