Adelbert was born April 28, 1933 in Temple, Texas to parents Albert and Della Bartek. He grew up in Airville, Texas and moved to Hood Village in the early forties. He attended Camp Hood High School and graduated from Fort Hood High School in 1952. It was in high school he met his future wife Betsy Frese. During high school he distinguished himself in football and track.
In 1952 he received a free scholarship in track to SMU in Dallas. After college, he was commissioned as 2nd LT in the USAF and became a pilot. Retiring after 20 years he worked 18 years as a Safety Director for South Florida Water Management District and the City of West Palm Beach.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Growing up on a farm, he had a great appreciation of nature and gardening. He especially enjoyed a trip to his cousins, Green Sausage House in Zabeikville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Della Bartek., twin brother Albert, sisters, Annabelle Meyers and La Nelle Walts.
He is survived by his wife Betsy, daughter Karen Finlan and granddaughters, Kristen, Anna, Alyssa and sister Jo Mildred Humphrey. Nieces, Lisa (deceased), Jan, JoAnn, Peggy, Jerri Ann, and Mitzi. Nephews, George P., James Dean, Bubba, Rodney and Benny. Sister-in-law, Pam, brother-in-law George, Chick, James and Bill (deceased).
Services will be December 9, 2013 at 11:00am in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen, followed by a reception at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scott and White Hospice Temple.
