Mr. Walter Kaiser
(June 14, 1961 – March 16, 2017)
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the family of Walter announces his passing on March 16, 2017 at the young age of 55.
Walter is survived by the love of his life Jeannie (Gilchrist), his two sons whom he loved dearly and was very proud of, Adam (Racquel Collins) of Sylvan Lake, Alberta and Jeffrey of Kenora and Winnipeg.
He is also survived by his two sisters Renate Latus (Jerry) and Hilda Engler (Lynn) both of Thunder Bay, ON.; his three brothers Herbert, Hans (Debbie) and Paul (Elaine Roulston) all of Kenora, also by his many nieces, grand nieces, nephews and grandnephews.
Walter is also survived by Jeannie’s family, brothers and sisters in law, Bonnie (Jim Cavers), Colleen (Doug Simpson) both from Portage La Prairie, MB, Lyle (Della Purdy-Gilchrist) of Minnedosa, MB and John (Gail) Gilchrist of Canora, Saskatchewan.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Hans (2006) and Hildegarde (2014) and by Jeannie’s parents, Al (1998) and Millie Gilchrist (2010).
Walter was born and raised in Kenora where he attended Mount Carmel, Thomas Aquinas Schools and graduated from Beaver Brae in 1979.
Walter was always a hard and dedicated worker. At the age of 12 he started working fulltime during the summers at the Husky as a short order cook. He cherished those days, made many lifelong friends and had so many fun escapades there with his coworkers.
After a brief road trip to the West Coast with his good friend Joe Fedorwich, he returned to Kenora and started work at the Boise Cascade Pulp and Paper mill. He obtained his Millwright Certification in the early 80’s.
When the mill shut down permanently in 2005, Walter always being a great provider worked a few odd jobs until he gained full time employment in Alberta (Firebag).
Just as much as he hated to travel to work which took him away from his home and family, he very much enjoyed his work and co-workers in Firebag. They definitely were his second family and he had a lot of love and respect for them, as they did for him. Right up to the end he spoke of returning to work in Firebag.
Walter and Jeannie started dating in 1985. They had many adventures, vacations, fun and loving times, they would have been married 30 years on April 04, 2017.
Walter loved the outdoors whether it be camping, fishing, boating or hunting he enjoyed them all and had so much fun teaching Jeannie and his sons a lot of those things. In our early married years we enjoyed snowmobiling, skiing and curling.
Most of all Walter loved living on the Winnipeg River where he could jump in his boat whenever he wanted, whether it was for fishing or just boat rides with his beloved Jeannie, Adam & Jeff.
He also loved his campfires. Every available minute he could have a fire he did. He passed his love of campfires on to his sons.
Walter also loved heading south on many vacations that he went on with family and many good friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 1:00 p.m.-4:00p.m. in the Rosewood Room at the Clarion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Walter’s name to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, 21 Sylvan Street West, Kenora, Ontario P9N 3W7 or the Cancer Care at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. 980 Oliver Rd, Thunder Bay, ON P7B 5E1.
