Shirley passed away peacefully with her sister at her side at Lake of the Woods General Hospital in Kenora. After suffering a serious stroke some nine years ago, she has been a resident of Pinecrest - Kenora District Homes.
She is survived by brother Bill Boquist (Thunder Bay, ON), sister Daphne Kron, (Toronto ON), nephews Stephen (Thunder Bay), Geoffrey Kron (Victoria BC), Paul Kron (Toronto ON) and niece Anna Marie Boquist (Winnipeg MB).
Shirley is pre-deceased by parents William and Elsie Boquist, Nephews Jamie Boquist and William Kron.
Born in Kenora, Shirley graduated from High School in Kenora and started a long and successful career with Mando, the local paper mill. She held increasingly responsible positions until her departure. She qualified and had a long career of over 20 years teaching at Beaver Brae High School in Kenora.
Shirley was active in many local organizations including the Vestry at St. Alban's Cathedral, several investment clubs, and member of the Board of directors of the District Legal Aid, Southward Villa, Retired Teachers of Ontario, Kenora Golf Club, Business Ladies, etc.
A service will be held at 2:00 P.M. at St. Albans Cathedral on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Reception to follow.
We will miss her fine sense of the ridiculous, her offbeat humour and that amazing smile.
