Norman Erickson
On Wednesday, October 9, 2013, Norman George Erickson, age 97 passed away at Lake of the Woods District Hospital with family by his side and is now with his love Ollie.
Norm was born on August 8, 1916 in Radville, Saskatchewan.
He is predeceased by his parents, Dora and Julius Erickson and brothers Lester, Len & Alvin. Norm was the last in his family. He also lost his wife and soulmate Ollie in November 2010 whom he was married to for 70 years.
Norm is survived by his children Bonnie (Brian) Campbell, Rick (Georgie) Erickson, Sharon (Ray) Skillen. Grampa Norm will also be sadly missed by his nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, also missing Uncle Norm will be his special niece Joan (Erickson) Boyd.
Dad was employed with the CPR for 37 years as a conductor. He was a member of the Retired Railroaders and the Royal Canadian Legion Br.12 for 69 years.
In his younger years, Norm was known for his baseball abilities as a pitcher, something he enjoyed very much. He and Ollie spent many outings together fishing and in later years enjoying family get togethers, curling and golf.
Dad was an easy going guy who enjoyed the simple things in life. He always had a “one liner” for everyone who asked him how he made it to 97.
The family would like to thank the emergency staff, 3rd floor nursing staff, physio girls, attendants, housekeeping & dietary staff for the care and concern of Dad.
To Dr. Vaudry for his years of care and friendship with Dad and Drs. Bowerman, Workman & Beveridge for assisting with his care.
To Jan Robertson and the staff at Benedickson Court where Dad called home; Thank you so much for your care and friendship to Dad. He enjoyed his daily visits and chats and couldn’t have remained there without your care. The “Girls” and Darcy were his “friends” and looked forward to them popping in. Thank you to the residents of Benedickson for your friendship with Dad.
Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox United Church with Pastor Cathy Giroux officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the service.
