June 19, 1929 – October 9, 2013
It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Mike (Mickey) Warnick at the age of 84 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 following a brief illness.
Mickey was born in Brandon, Manitoba on June 19, 1929 into a family of 10 children.
Mickey married Helen in Brandon on May 27, 1950. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
He started with the CPR in Brandon at an early age employed as a Wiper. He retired as a Locomotive Engineer in 1987. He often told stories of shovelling tons of coal into the massive boilers of the steam engines.
Mickey was a jack of all trades! He could fix anything - he was an avid gardener, fisherman, and an expert golfer and could throw a darn good curling rock. He was a man who never hesitated to try something new. In his younger years he achieved his dream of getting his pilot’s licence. He was a past member of the Beauty Bay Seniors Golf, the Keewatin Men’s Senior Curling Club and was a member and enjoyed the camaraderie of the Kenora Railroader’s Club. He was always there to give a helping hand to anyone and was a generous person.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife Helen, son Gord and his wife Pat, grandson Jeff and wife Brianne of Kenora; granddaughter Lyndi (Tony) of Grimbsy, Ontario; son Mike and his wife Judy, grandson Keith and his wife Angela and great granddaughter Sophia of Ottawa; grandson Jason and his wife Tina of Kelowna, B.C.
The family would like to thank Mickey’s family doctor, Jim Beveridge for his excellent care and concern, Dr. Brad Kyle and the 3rd floor nurses. While we will miss him, we are grateful he is no longer suffering and we know he is soaring in the sky with the angels, still enjoying his dream of flying. Rest in peace our loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the banquet hall at the Travelodge on Friday October 18, 2013 between 12 noon and 2:00 pm.
Brown’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cremation has taken place and Interment will follow at a later date. In
