It is with profound sadness that the family of John Charles Nash, Ogima’inini of the Moose clan announce his passing on November 20, 2020 at his home in Animakee Wa Zhing #37.
John a.k.a “Mye” to his family and close friends, is survived by his sons Zachary (Danielle), and Adrian (Chevonne). his auntie Mary Helen Joseph, brothers Kenneth (Paula), Stuart (Carrie) and Bobo, sister Rhonda (Mitchell) and cousin-sister Delores (Mike) Lein, his beloved grandchildren Kaz – Wassay Anungoose, Reign, Sigwan, Dorian, little Dominic, Nikolai, Maximus, Lucas, Danielle, Jordyn, Lisa, Kaydence, Mykayla, his great nieces and nephews Starlene, Starlow, Diana, Ashlyn, Ariana, Raven, Mira, Arelle, Skyen, Lara, Keiran, Shiloh, Emmett, North, Breven, Omry, Jordanson, Carter, Jacoby, young Charlie, nieces Starla, Whitney (Alwyn), Larissa (Kenny), Andria, Brianne, Shandi Rose (Patrick), Kerrie, Lacey, Robbie and Araina and nephew Troy. As well as many cousins too numerous to mention.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Sandra, parents Charlie Nash and Rose Nash, brothers Joseph, and Brian, sisters Marlene & Diane, paternal grandparents John and Annie Nash (nee Hunter), maternal grandparents Charlie and Mae Joseph (nee Skead), nephews Jordan and Randy Nash, son Dominic Henry, niece Shandi Marie, granddaughter Peyton, grandniece Lara Johnson, uncles Harry, Francis, and Fred Joseph, and Peterson Nash, aunties Mary, Catherine, Margaret, Frieda Redsky and Katy Blackhead, great uncles Bill, Arthur, Alex and Clifford Skead, great aunt Cecelia Jack.
Mye was born on May 26, 1966 in Kenora, Ontario; He was 54 years old. Mye was very close with family. He had a great love for his grandchildren; nicknames ‘Bapa’ by grandson Kaz and ‘kokum Mye’ by his grand nieces. Mye graduated from Baibombeh Anishinaabe school. He worked as a welfare administrator for AWZ 37 early on before moving onto to studying at Algoma University for a few years where he became skilled in researching on the history of indigenous peoples and finding family members. He worked along side his brothers Kenneth, Brian, Mitch, & cousin, Patrick as a fishing guide at Totem Lodge for many years. He was also a skilled baker and loved baking for his family during family gatherings, (our bannock maker) or simply dropping off treats for anyone. He loved to send funny videos and messages to his nieces. John was currently employed with Animakee Wa Zhing #37 as a NRF coordinator.
Wake services will start on November 24, 2020 around 1 pm at AWZ 37 Community Hall. Traditional services will start on November 25, 2020 at 10:00 am at AWZ 37 Community Hall with Elder Lawrence Henry officiating with interment to follow and burial beside his father, brothers and nephew on Animakee Wa Zhing #37.
The family would like to thank Animakee Wa Zhing 37, Treaty #3 police, and Naotkamegwanning ambulance. And to family for all their calls, help and assistance during this difficult time.
The family asks that we celebrate the life and memories of our beloved dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and great uncle as he starts his spiritual journey back home. Mye is now with all beloved family members that passed on before him, free of pain and suffering. Fly high until we meet again.
