Jane Swanson
March 13, 1920 - September 29, 2012
Jane passed away peacefully at Birchwood Terrace on September 29, 2012.
Born in Easton, PA, Jane moved to Canada as a little girl with her father and brother and spent her early years in Drummondville, Quebec. Having lost her mother at a young age. Jane was raised with the guiding hand of her older sister Betty and husband John Illick.
Honouring her adopted country in WWII, Jane enlisted in the RCAF and there, Corporal Jane Blair met the love of her life, Flight Sergent Roger Swanson. Jane and Roger married and moved to Roger's home town of Kenora where they raised two children and celebrated 68 years as husband and wife.
Jane cherished many wonderful friendships over the years. Her friends and family, including her many nieces and nephews, were her constant joy. Her grace, generosity, gentleness and kindness will be remebered by all who knew her. Over the years, Jane gave of her heart and time participating in groups such as LCW and the Donna Club and volunteered with the CNIB and the Lake of the Woods Hospital Auxiliary.
Left with loving memories, Jane is survived by husband Roger, son Blair, daughter Dale and son-in-law Ken MacKenzie, sister-in-law Audrey Mortensen and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Jane was predeceased by her mother Lottie and father Charles Blair, sister Betty Illick and brother Leidy Blair.
The family would like to thank Jane's extended family - the nurses, Personal Support Workers and staff of Birchwood Terrace, and Dr. Bowerman for the care and support given to Jane during her residence there. Thank you also to Dr. W. Cameron and Dr. J. Retson for the years of medical care.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Jane's life will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox United Church, Kenora. Refreshments and reminiscences in the church hall will follow. Cremation has taken place and the family will hold a private interment at a future date.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that Jane be honoured by way of a donation to Heart and Stroke Foundation, the CNIB, the Alzheimer's Society, Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation or the charity of one's choice.
