Roger is with his beloved wife of 28 years Melvina Muckle (Shay-nia), his parents James Smith and Maryann Williamson, brother Rodrick Smith, sister Marina Smith, his daughter Sheyleen Land, his auntie Mable Smith, brother-in-law Robert Boyd, nieces Allison Land, Jane, Loretta, Helen, nephews Robert Smith, Alex Smith, Eva Smith, stepson Russell Muckle. He will also be greatly missed by his guiding buddies Alex Muckle, Kenneth Muckle, Ronald Muckle, Leslie Paishk, Allan MacDonald, Joe Mandamin and Darryl Savoyard.
He will be sadly missed by his in-laws and family, step-daughters, he called his own, Michelle Muckle (Russell Scott), Joelle Muckle (Naz Land), his son Reno Land, cousin-in-laws Doug, Harvey, Cyrena, Gary, Lonny, Nicholas, Harvey, Fisher, Rina, Gloria (Gus), Wayne (Myra), Annette, Charles (Charlene), Mavis, Troy and Delton called him (Roger Daddy) and many more too numerous to mention. He will also be greatly missed by his guiding buddies Roger MacDonald, Tommy Muckle, Dave Muckle, Joe Muckle, Derek Hunter, Pattie MacDonald, Albert Land, Dave MacDonald, John Mandamin, Harvey Smith and Charles Muckle.
Roger grew up in Shoal Lake First Nation with his family and later on in his teen years they moved to Malachi, Ontario, he worked at KCR Camp for many years as a guide and was close to the Castle family, he also enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his brother in-law Charles, as well as rice picking, blueberry picking, shore lunches with family, fish derbies, visiting with his family and friends, he loved joking around whenever we got together at family BBQ’s, bon fires and wiener roasts that he enjoyed very much, Roger was a very nice person that we are going to miss, our family is sad and still cannot believe he’s gone to be with his beloved family on the other side, journey home Roger. Roger also had many friends and relatives in Grassy Narrows, Shoal Lake, Whitedog and Kenora, Roger lived in Whitedog for many years and considered Whitedog his home.
A big Miigwech to C&C, Rollie and Roanne for being there for Roger when he needed help and to his buddies and medical driver Mauricio, Jimmy Kakegamic for picking up mail and taking it to him and the many things you assisted with including taking him for rides. Garnet Ignace and Wayne Muckle taking his garbage out, Rodney Castle for assisting him in any way possible including shopping, etc… Dave Muckle for being there for him, if we’ve missed someone miig-wech to you as well, and also to WCWA arranging visits to be with his grandkids, KCA in Kenora, Ma’iingan Emergency Team and Treaty 3 Police.
Wake service will begin on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Whitedog Community Hall. A traditional funeral service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 10:00 am at Whitedog Community Hall with Elder Howard Copenace leading the ceremony with interment to held in Whitedog First Nation.
