In the early evening hours of September 3, 2024, a soul left this world. Jack Raymond Pearson was born on May 24,1933 in Norman, Ontario. He was 91 years old. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
He was predeceased by his first wife Lynn, his parents Oscar and Jarda, brother Gordon (Butch), sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Ross Booth and son in law Warren Ortlieb.
He is survived by his second wife, Pat. Children Raymond (Susan), Jacqueline, Greg (Marilyn), John, Joanna (Corey) and Dan Wallace (Treena). Eleven Grandchildren; Jon, (Natalie) Karen, Kylie (Bryan), Jenna (Jeremy), Ryan, (Halle) Matthew, Maria, Stephanie, Colby, Jennifer and Rebecca. Seven Great Grandchildren; Audrey, Madisyn, Avea, Andy, Sophie, Nate and Collins. Also surviving are brother Bryan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack worked in the forest industry for the same company through several transitions from Mando to Abitibi Consolidated. He started at 18 years old as camp clerk at Camp Robinson and retired 45 years later as Purchase Pulpwood Manager in Kenora. In 1999, Kenora - Keewatin was named Forest Capital of Canada. Jack was proud to be honoured as chairman of this National Annual Event.
Jack believed in giving back to his community. He served for several years on Keewatin Municipal Council, as well as Mayor, on Lake of the Woods Hospital Board and as chair of Keewatin Non Profit Housing Authority. He was a long-time member of Kinsmen and K-40 and a lifetime member of the Keewatin Legion. An avid curler, he also served as president of the Keewatin Curling Club.
He was involved with minor hockey when his boys were young, and was always there to lend a hand, whether it was a community event or helping put a new roof on a neighbour’s house.
An enthusiastic outdoorsman and house boater, Jack hosted the start crew of the Kenora Bass International Tournament for several years, going out at the crack of dawn every morning to send the fishermen on their way.
Most of all, he was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He always had time and patience for the little ones when they wanted to “help” with a project, and enjoyed watching them learn and grow.
The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff of 2 East Medical Unit for the care and compassion shown Jack in his final days. We are eternally grateful.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family interment at Lake of the Woods Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
A come and go celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the Minis Hall from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Friday September 20, 2024.
Jack was very proud of his Swedish heritage and this prayer for a Viking warrior seems appropriate…
“As we return our kin to your embrace, may his journey be safe and swift. May the good deeds performed in life, echo in the Halls of Odin and may he find peace and honour in the realms of the gods.”
