August 2, 1929 – February 12, 2022
In the early evening of February 12, Mom curled up in the loving arms of her heavenly father and passed peacefully.
She made this part of her life’s journey easy for us because that is what she did. She always put others before herself. Her faith was strong. She had loved and was deeply loved. She laughed, she cried and now she was tired and ready to see those who had gone before her. There were many as Mom was the last of her legacy on both sides of her family.
She was predeceased by her husband Roy, her parents Robina and William Richards, her parents in law Oscar and Mary Green. Her sisters Audrey Richards and Betty Latham, her brothers Vimy and Bob, her brothers and sisters in law May Richards, William Latham, Harry and Lenora (Noni) Green, Oscar and Ida Green, as well as her son in law Harvey Fairchild.
She is survived by her children Judy (Marc) Bechard, Jim (Joyce) Green, Wendy Fairchild, Val Westlund, Dick (Bev) Green and Debbie (Frank) Muto. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In the summer of 1947, she married a blue-eyed boy from Norman and over the span of the next 13 years they had 6 children. Norman was where they lived, Dad built their house and Mom was able to stay there for 62 years. Together they built a cabin on Hay Island, many memories were made with friends and family. Even after Dad passed, Mom was able to spend another 10 years at her little haven, with the help of family and their friends Brian and Shirley Tivy.
Over the course of Mom’s working years she was employed at the Mando Mill Office, Eaton’s and Krons. She spent the last 40+ years in a local law office starting with the names King, Swancar, Compton and ending with the names Compton, Sewchuk, Ormiston, MacDonell & Richardt. She affectionately referred to them as ‘the boys’. She was their bookkeeper, receptionist and apparently ran a tight ship, she made many long lasting friends there.
She was a caring, kind lady who volunteered countless hours with the Canadian Cancer Society, Kenora Handi Transit and the Lake of the Woods Hospital Auxiliary.
Mom spent the last three years at Benedickson Court. Mom loved ‘her girls’, as she affectionately referred to them. As a family, we want to thank them for their tireless, loving care.
So many people surrounded our Mom with care. The PSW’s at Benedickson, the Palliative Team, the Community Paramedics, Para Med, Medi Gas. We knew that Mom was in good hands.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 1:00pm at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre with Pastor Cathy Giroux officiating.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, you can donate to the Canadian Cancer Society, Kenora Handi Transit, Lake of the Woods Hospital Auxiliary or the charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the Green family.
