Frank is survived and will be greatly missed by his three children, Angela Kortz-Bowerman of Campbell River, BC, Jason Kortz of Red Deer, AB, and Lydia Bagshaw and husband John of Reaboro, ON. He is also survived by his companion, Faye Tycholis, his mother Gladys Kortz, both of Kenora, three sisters Shirley Johnston and husband Peter of Winnipeg, Marion Haines and husband Buzzo of Kenora, Dianne Derouin of Kenora, two brothers David Kortz and wife Diana of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Allan Kortz and wife Shirley of Kenora, three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Jonathan Kortz and his father Stephen Kortz.
Frank was born in Kenora and lived here most of his life. He was employed at the Liquor Control Board from the age of 21 until his retirement in December of 1996. He transferred to become a manager of the Liquor Board in Kirkland Lake where he lived for several years. After retirement, he returned to Kenora and enjoyed working for Excel Coach Lines driving a school bus.
In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling abroad and visited such places as England, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Scotland and the Caribbean. He also went to the states to go turkey hunting in New Mexico, as well as visited several other states including Hawaii. He drove across Canada visiting several provinces.
He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, bowling, baseball, hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Keewatin branch.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Pallbearers are Troy, Eric, Stephen, and Daniel Johnston, Matthew Kortz, Jeffrey Derouin and Jim Zilinski.
