Dennis Daniel Copenace, age 66, a resident of Kenora, Ontario, band member of Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022 peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre.

He was predeceased by his parents Janet Copenace and William Strong, daughter Melissa Rain Copenace and his beloved wife Mary Copenace.

He is survived by step-son Lionel and his children Athena, Logan, Miles, Chiles, Nitanis, Laney and Melissa, his son Daniel Copenace and his daughters Marissa and Avehla Copenace, his daughter Tanya Copenace, son Tyler Copenace. As well as his brother Gary Copenace, his sister Connie Copenace (Bill) and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives too numerous to mention.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball, fishing and golfing. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was always cracking jokes. He loved to travel to the casino with his wife, and really loved the company of his children. He really enjoyed going to Winnipeg to visit his niece and her family Brian, Hayden, Harmony and Hailo.

Dennis was a member of Ki'eshgitabaaning Midewiin Lodge and followed the traditional way of life and valued his Anishinabemowin.

A Traditional Midewin Wake and Funeral ceremony will be conducted by Mide'kiwenzie of Ki'eshgitabaaning and his Midewiin helpers for Dennis beginning on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Niisaachewan Gymnasium. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 4, 2022 at 10:00 am at Niisaachewan Gymnasium with interment to follow at Lake of the Woods Cemetery.
