David Hall

April 7th 1961-October 1st 2023

The family of David Hall are saddened to announce his passing on October 1st, 2023, in Kenora, Ontario, at the age of 62.

He will be missed dearly by his daughter Jessica (Isaac) and son Mathew (Alyssa) and his grandchildren Lilly, Lyra, Aria, and Hugo.

He is survived by his brothers Brian (Cathy), Kirby, Bruce, Michael, and his sisters Lori-Anne (Les), and Michelle. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Beverley and Charles, and brothers Alan and Gary.

David, known as Dave to most, was born in Gimli, Manitoba but lived in Kenora for the majority of his life. The second oldest of 9 children, he would often be found building forts in the bush with his brothers as a child and was especially close to Alan being only one year apart. Having lived on a river growing up, his love for water and the outdoors continued throughout his life in one form or another.

As an early adult, he spent many a time camping, going to the beach, hiking and cross country skiing in the beautiful hills of Thunder Bay. He enjoyed weightlifting and staying fit which helped as he worked as a security guard and bar security. He even got several tattoos way before it was cool, showing off his Icelandic heritage.

As he got older, he especially enjoyed boating on Lake of the Woods and hoped to own a pontoon boat. During this time, he worked for Setterland Group Homes in Kenora as a youth worker but his main passion in life (and side jobs) were computers. He loved building them from scratch, fixing them, tinkering, learning and programming. He was an avid reader, had always kept up with the latest movies, and loved a good Tim Hortons iced capp and chocolate dipped donut.

Those who knew Dave would say he was a gentle, kind, quiet mannered man who rarely raised his voice at others, that he had a good sense of humor and a signature giggle that will be sorely missed.

As he aged, he tried to continue to work as a CO-OT taxi driver but his body began to work against him. Suffering from COPD, he was lucky enough to share a residence with his father and then become next door neighbours with his brother Bruce as they helped him through this time in his life. The family would like to thank the many others who contributed to maintaining his physical and mental health during his final years.

A private celebration of life and burial in the Lake of the Woods Cemetery will take place with immediate family at a later date.
