Bernice was born in Poland on September 1, 1930. She immigrated to Canada on her own at the young age of 17. Her parents and siblings followed a few years later and all resided in Kenora. She met Casimir Literovich in Kenora and they were married on June 13, 1953. Although they lived in Kenora for most of their married lives, our Mom’s fondest memories were of the cottage at Trout Lake. It was there that they planned and built the dream home where their children and grandchildren were always welcome. Even after Casimir’s passing in 2006, Bernice was happy to stay at the cottage, puttering about in her garden and being the envy of the neighbours for her beautiful flowers. Mom was an excellent cook and baker, handing down many recipes that remind us of her as we enjoy them to this day. She will be missed by her children, Rick (Pam Smith), Ron (Kim), Bill, and Lisa (Jamie Lye), grandchildren, Amy, Samantha, Kenzie, Kathleen, Matthew and Ian, and her great-grandchildren Veronica and Maxwell, as well as her brother John Bartkowiak(Margaret).
Bernice spent the last four years of her life residing at Pinecrest Home where she had worked many years before. The family is very grateful for the compassionate care provided by everyone there.
