Una Hodge Cook, age 81, passed away peacefully with her loving husband and children by her side on June 3rd 2021. She was born on March 12th, 1940 in Preston Mississippi. She was raised in Dekalb Mississippi and spent the majority of her adult life living in the suburbs of Northwest Metro Atlanta.
Born LaUna Earle Hodge, known by all in Dekalb as Una Earle, and in Atlanta - she was simply Una. She was born at home; her father fetched the doctor to assist with the birth and paid him $5 for his expertise. Her life experiences ranged from picking cotton in Mississippi to selling real estate as a licensed realtor in Atlanta. She was also a very popular bank teller in metro Atlanta - folks waited in her queue, just to hear her Mississippi drawl.
Una was an accomplished pianist, playing for church services, weddings, and funerals in her younger days. She often learned songs by ear. Her husband, Curtis, especially loved to hear her play the Tennessee Waltz.
Known for her empathy and caring heart, many were drawn to share their burdens with her - she would cry right along with them. At times, she had a fiery spirit to go along with her red hair that kept things lively. She was intelligent, caring, loyal, and fretful about everyone within her circle of care. She had the best friends in the world because she was the best friend to them. She was completely in love with her husband of 52 years until her last breath.
Una is survived by her husband, Curtis; her brother, James Hodge and spouse; her three children and stepson, Lisa Jacobson, Steve Cook, Curt Cook, and Randall Cook and their families; nieces and nephews Kirk Hodge, Jenny Hodge, Tina Williams and David Hodge; grandchildren and step grandchildren Josh Ward, Ben Ward, Matt Ward, Joyce Studier, James Merritt, Ethan Cook, Logan Cook, Phillip Cook, Matthew Cook, Emma Mae Cook and Tessa Rose Cook; grandnieces-nephews; and eight great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 7th, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home. Viewing will begin at noon for family, open to all at 1:00. A reception will be held after a brief graveside service the same Winkenhofer Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Parkway Kennesaw, GA.
