Rowena Bedford Houston was born on September 12, 1925 in the small town of Stanton, Tennessee, some 35 miles north of Memphis. Within a Family of seven she was the middle child of 5 children. Her love for Art was encouraged by her Mother, Maternal Grandmother, and Aunts, who were also artists. When she decided to go to college in her 40's, she went from Hinds Junior College to Delta State University, where she studied Art Education, and Sculpture. Upon graduation, she was privileged to teach Arts and Crafts to many grade school children at Humpheys Academy in Belzoni, Mississippi. Family have met her former students, who had utmost praise of Rowena for engaging and inspiring their creativity to have FUN.
