Ron was born in Prichard, Alabama to Nathan and Irene (Herring) Welborn. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama, attending high school at McGill Catholic High School. After high school, Ron enlisted in the Marines, feeling strongly about wanting to serve God and Country in the best way he knew how. Following his service, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama, where he was a proud member of the Crimson Tide Football Team, under the legendary Coach Paul Bear Bryant.
After earning his bachelor’s degree from Alabama, and master’s degree from Xavier University, he went on to pursue a successful career in sales that took him all over the world. He loved his work and loved his Bama football, always following the team no matter where he was located; frequently returning to campus with family to attend games and being an active part of the alumni association. He was a season ticket holder for many years.
Not able to fully retire, as he was never one to be idle, he further explored his passion for cooking and attended Culinary Arts School to earn an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts at the ripe old age of 67. After spending some time in the restaurant industry, he eventually returned to consulting work in sales where he continued his career.
He was an avid volunteer with the local Marine Corp League of Woodstock, GA as well as the Detachment Ceremonial Rifle Team. He was passionate about his volunteer work, working tirelessly on numerous fund raisers to provide local area scholarships and performing rifle honors at various functions.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dick Welborn. He is survived by his loving wife, Janey, brother David, 4 children: son, Ronnie Stroud (Tracy) of Lilburn, GA; daughters Kristina Welborn of Kennesaw, GA; Traci Holland (Matt) of Powder Springs, GA and Kristin Rose of Atlanta, GA as well as 5 grandchildren: Hunter, Davis and Taylor Stroud, and Connor and Caden Holland, as well as his loving nieces and nephews and many friends.
