Shortly after graduating high school, he joined the military and served in the United States Army for the next seven years. He received a good conduct medal, was an expert with the M-14 rifle and received a medal for his service in Vietnam.
Once he was discharged from the Army, he obtained a job at Western Electric and worked as a repair and maintenance technician. Rod was always very handy with his tools and there was not anything he could not fix; one would say he was a man of many trades. His passion was working on cars and helping others. He often would be the first to jump at a chance to help anyone. Along with cars, he was handy at fixing things around his home. Rod was a very giving person and was known to be the one anyone could lean on. He enjoyed spending time outside doing yard work as well as restoring John Deere equipment. There was never a time that he didn’t have a project to do.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne White; son, Kevin (Sandy) White; Kyra (Spencer) Snedecor and Delores White; grandchildren, Tread Snedecor, Wade Snedecor, Shelby Snedecor, and Austin McCoy and close family friend, Bert (Susie) Geiger.
A celebration of life will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Parkway, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152, on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at twelve thirty in the afternoon. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service. Mr. White will be buried at Georgia National Cemetery and military honors will be rendered following the service at three o’clock in the afternoon.
