Patrick Lamar Curtis, age 93, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at his home in Acworth, GA. He was born in Alabama City, Alabama and spent his younger years in Guntersville, Alabama. His family relocated to Rome, Georgia several years later but Pat often spoke of returning to Guntersville. In his late teens, before graduating from high school, he joined the Navy and spent three years based in Jacksonville, FL and traveled the world, especially the Mediterranean Sea. In the early ‘50’s, Pat returned to Rome, re-entered high school and met the love of his life, Nancy Earle Hester. They were married April 17, 1954 and started a family a year later with the birth of their son, Robert Gregory Curtis. Pat had started working at the Lockheed aircraft production facility in Marietta, Ga and for the next several years, worked at Lockheed during the day, drove to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech at night, and then returned home to his and Nancy’s new home in Smyrna, Ga every night. Three years later, they had their daughter, Cynthia Jan Curtis. Soon, Pat got his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Tech and Nancy finished her nursing degree and was certified as a registered nurse (RN). Pat continued working at Lockheed while he and Nancy raised Greg and Jan in Smyrna. Later, as the kids grew, Nancy began working as a nurse and Pat and Nancy became known as “Pot n RN.” Pot retired in the late 1990’s after more than 45 years with Lockheed. He and Nancy moved to Acworth to enjoy their retirement. Nancy passed in 2004 and Pat will rest next to her. He is survived by his brother Randall, son Greg, and daughter Jan, his grandsons Matthew (Lauren), David (Elizabeth), and Michael, and his great-grandsons Henry, Sammy, Gil, Ronan, and Jude. A visitation with the Curtis family will occur on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 2pm at Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Parkway, NW, Kennesaw, GA 30152 and will be followed by a memorial and burial ceremony at the Pine Ridge Memorial Cemetery at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in the name of “Pot n RN”.
