Nancy “Joyce” (Holinshed) Hamby, 68, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in September 2023.
She was born in South Hill, Virginia on December 24, 1954, and was the first and oldest daughter of Jack and Nancy Hughes.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Renee Black (Glen), Tiffany Joyce Cheney; her mother Nancy Pierce Hughes; three brothers Floyd Hughes (Kathy), Lloyd Hughes (Marynell), Wesley Hughes; one sister Barbara Bailey; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Brent, Katie, Calvin, Connor, Colin, Luke; Jayce and Zeke as well as a many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Nancy Joyce Hamby is preceded in death by her spouse, David Lewis Hamby; Father, Jack Lawson Hughes; a brother Ricky Hughes. her youngest daughter Stephanie Mae Holinshed, her daughter’s father Grady Holinshed; her grandson Casey Brock Callaway.
Joyce loved her time with her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed by them. Everybody that knew her will always remember her for her beauty both inside and out and will never forget her smile. She loved her church family, by raising her daughters in church at Pebblebrook Baptist Church, Mableton, GA, yet she also held space for hobbies that brought light to her own spirit. She loved her dogs, Coco, Bella, and Lil Bit. She also very much enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for the holidays, which were her favorite time of the year. She loved to travel, especially to the beach with her daughter Tiffany Joyce and her family, they would often visit Tybee Island Beach in Savannah, GA throughout the year, and it was also a place where many memories were created. In addition to that she enjoyed reading, shopping, and gardening, a few of the things that she was particularly good at doing. The love that her oldest daughter Nancy Renee had for her, prompted her to replant her entire garden just this past Mother’s Day, a moment that she can hold dear. She might be gone but will never be forgotten.
Mrs. Hamby was devoted to her relationships with her husbands. She and her children's father were married for twenty-seven years, Grady and Joyce have three beautiful daughters, Nancy Renee, Tiffany Joyce and Stephanie Mae, She was a housewife and raised their three daughters, after the daughters were all in school she begin working at Fitzhugh Lee Elementary school as a Lunchroom Monitor and the After School Program, from there she worked in Cobb County, Gwinnett County and Forsyth County preparing school breakfast and lunches for what she also called her children.
Nancy “Joyce” met a new love by the name of David Hamby, her military beau. Nancy Joyce and David Lewis Hamby were married for seven years, they traveled and worked together on Dental Equipment and resided in Cumming, GA.
Nancy Joyce Hamby was a food service assistant in Cobb County Georgia and was a member of the Bel Air Ladies Group and Cobb Schools Nutrition Association and the School Nutrition Association. She is remembered as being loving, supportive, caring for all. She leaves behind a legacy of following your heart and dreams, love of animals, and walking in faith and trusting in God.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in her memory to any Pet Rescue or No Kill Animal Shelters.
