Melissa Renee Fowlkes, age 54 of Kennesaw, GA, passed away on Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at her home. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee, a daughter of Michael Carter and Rhonda Lewis. Melissa was a homemaker, choosing the route of room mother, team mom, scout mom, and the Mom all of her children’s friends knew and adored. One of her favorite joys in life was being a Mother to her four children and two grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and equally. She was an extremely kind and loving person, having not met a stranger, and always contributing her time and talent to her children’s activities as a leader or a contributor. She worked with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFACS) for over a decade as a certified and trained foster care and adoptive parent, which was another great joy of hers. Sharing her self with other children was in her DNA. She was also devoted to her church, Transfiguration Catholic Church, and attended when she wasn’t ill.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Michael Carter of Houston, Texas. Melissa is survived by her Husband, William Wendell Fowlkes of Kennesaw, Georgia; her Mother, Rhonda Lewis of Macon, Georgia; and her Brother, Michael Pope of Eatonton, Georgia. She is also survived by her four children Hillari Gharib and husband Tony Gharib from Pace, Florida; William Zachary “Zac” Fowlkes, Gabriella “Ella” Nicole Fowlkes, and William Bennett “Bam” Fowlkes of Kennesaw, Georgia; two granddaughters, Savannah Marie Gharib and Daphne Elizabeth Gharib of Pace, Florida; and by many other family members and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12pm on Friday, October 27th, 2023 at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia, with Father Eric Hill officiating.
