Mary Elizabeth Barnhill

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth ‘Bettye’ Barnhill, age 94, of Marietta, GA., passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Mrs. Barnhill was born on March 17, 1923 in Louisville, Mississippi, a daughter to the late Mr. Benton Burle Anders and Lula Clara Anders.

Mrs. Barnhill spent most of her childhood in Mississippi. On October 5, 1942 Bettye married the love of her life, Hubert Elmer Barnhill and the two created a beautiful life together. Following their marriage the two spent eleven years in New Orleans and began to grow their beautiful family; eventually making their way back to their home state of Mississippi. Bettye was a faithful and devoted member of Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus for over forty years. After the passing of her beloved husband Bettye made her way to Marietta in 2002 to be closer to her children. In her spare time she loved working in her flower garden and was a member of the Ceco Wives Club. Bettye’s life was full of many adventures and countless memories, however, nothing brought her more joy than being a wife and mother to her seven children. She was the rock and center of her family; she will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Along with her parents, Bettye is preceded in death by her four siblings, Pete Anders, Ruby Anders, Louise Jewell, Emma Jane Rousseau, Jo Lynn DeSilvey.

She is survived by her seven children, Hubert E. (Becky) Barnhill Jr. of Marietta, Vicky (Benny) Williamon of Kennesaw, Henry Barnhill of Woodstock, Harold (Gail) Barnhill of Columbus, MS, Patsy (Gary) Hedrick of Marietta, Harry (Joan) Barnhill of Marietta, and Barbara (Billy) Buxton of Columbus, MS; nineteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

A graveside service for Mrs. Barnhill will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon central time on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in the Memorial Gardens of Columbus, Mississippi.

A visitation with the family will take place from six o’clock in the afternoon until eight on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, GA.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family request donations be made to Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, Mississippi or to Wellstar Tranquility Hospice of Kennesaw.
