She was born in Fulton County, GA to the late George and Martha (Smith) Slover; later moving to Kennesaw GA in 1987 where she resided until her passing.
Kathy was a graduate of Marietta High School and earned a B.S. in English from the Univ of West GA. From there, she began her long career of 34 years with Southern Bell and Bellsouth. She retired in 2005.
Growing up Kathy always had a love for the sun and had fond memories of hopping on her father’s plane with a few friends for a weekend trip to the beach.
Later came her greatest joy, the birth of her only son Thomas; whom she loved dearly Kathy was a single, working mother, who was also caring for her ailing mom. She overcame many challenges, including her own battle with kidney cancer. She was truly superwoman.
She never missed her son’s baseball or football game or taekwondo/boxing competitions. She also ensured they took a vacation to the beach at least once a year. Granted it wasn’t via a private plane but instead it was usually Kathy, Tom and one of his friends crammed into a small car with them blasting The Fat Boys cassette repeatedly the entire drive! The memories Kathy and her son created together were endless.
Kathy enjoyed spending time with her lifelong friends Jimmy and Mary Bowzard. She lived life to its fullest, whether it was their weekly meetup at her favorite Mexican restaurant, staying home to watch Dateline, or chatting with her long time neighbor and friend Jeanette Landers.
She will be missed by all that knew her.
Kathy is survived by her son Thomas Atkins and his wife Angela of Kennesaw, Ga., grandchildren, Kylie Mcgarity and Nathaniel Pitts and her grand-dog, Winnie.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.winkenhoferpineridgefuneralhome.com for the Atkins family.
