Lynda Joyce Sanders, age 76, passed away on January 8th, 2021 at her home in Marietta, Georgia after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Lynda was born on March 2, 1944 in Pittsburgh, Texas to Homer Porter and Bessie Penick. Lynda was an exceptional pianist and vocalist, and thoroughly enjoyed athletics and the outdoors, belonging to as many as 3 different ALTA teams at the same time. In addition to tennis, Lynda learned to water ski and ride horses at an very early age and continued to enjoy both activities throughout her life. Lynda was a very active member of her high school drama program and was lead Drum Majorette her Senior year. Lynda attended North Texas University where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority and voted Pi Kappa Alpha’s Dreamgirl in 1965. It was at North Texas University where she met and eventually married her husband of 55 years, Kenneth Sanders of Longview, Texas. Lynda and Ken lived many places around the southeast until finally settling in Marietta, Georgia in 1984.
Lynda worked in education and as a piano teacher throughout her life. She ended her career as the assistant to the musical director at Roswell United Methodist Church. It was a job that she loved but retired from to spend more time with her three young granddaughters. During the final years of her life, Lynda devoted most of her time to her family and to being an active member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Ken Sanders, her daughters Deborah Sanders and Renee Sgrosso, Son in law Greg Sgrosso, three granddaughters Jordan, Noelle, and Ansley Sgrosso, and three nieces. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
