Joseph attended O’Keefe High School in Atlanta where he played on the football team. After high school, he attended Middle Tennessee University on a football scholarship before joining the Marines, where he served in the Honor Guard during his service.
After the Marines, Joseph completed his law degree at Atlanta Law School although he never practiced law. He began a very successful career in sales in truck parts for several companies and eventually retired from Tom Nehl Trucking in Jacksonville.
Joseph married his high school sweetheart, Sandra, and had three children, Greg, Amy, and Sean. Joseph loved spending time with his family, whether it was watching UGA football, Braves baseball, or the Atlanta Falcons.
As an avid reader, Joseph loved reading legal thrillers, military fiction, and mystery novels as well as several non-fiction books. He also loved young people and served as a youth leader for his church for several years.
Along with his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his daughter, Amy, who died of breast cancer in 2012. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, their son, Greg, his wife, Karen, daughter, Alexandra, and grandson, Henry; their son, Sean, his wife, Patricia, and their children, Abigail and Ryan; and Amy’s daughter, Ava along with Amy’s husband, Chris; his sister, Patricia Bagley Watts and his cousin, Jan Buckalew.
The visitation for Joseph scheduled for Sunday, January 16th from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm has been cancelled at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to HERO Agriculture, a charity that provides job training and assistance to returning veterans in the agriculture field.
