John D. Whitfield

John D. Whitfield, age 86 passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023. John was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania to Walter & Anne Whitfield. John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Whitfield; his sons Eric Whitfield, Jeff Whitfield, Todd Whitfield, and Herb Whitfield; his daughters Margie Speaks, Robin Medina, and Denise Moye; his brother Jim Whitfield and his sister Marji Roman; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his son Johnny, daughter Teri, and parents Walter and Anne.

Raised in Sewickley, John was a sports hero on the football field and in track & field. His athleticism continued into adulthood and he became an avid runner. John ran 14 consecutive Peachtree Road Races. After High School he continued his education, John spent 1 year at the University of Pittsburgh, received his BS Degree from the University of California Northridge, and Masters of Business from USC. John's working career was spent with Lockheed, 44 years, between Burbank, CA and Marietta, GA. He always said the best plane that he was involved with was the L-1011 which he started with in Burbank and then Marietta where he finished his career on the C-130. John did enjoy riding his Harley but his family and time spent with them is what he cherished the most.

There will be a private family service held to honor John's memory.
