Jerry was born on July 17, 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Kennesaw surrounded by a large and loving family. He was one of five children and had numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was strongly influenced by his family to be caring and compassionate, always giving his time to others and incorporated his kind heartedness into building a lifetime ministry of helping others.
Jerry was a gifted communicator and a humble, servant, leader leaving behind a legacy of sharing the word of God and the love of Christ. His ministry included the founding of Redemption Baptist Church and its many community outreach programs where he served as senior pastor for over 25 years.

They married in 1967 and expanded their family in 1974 with the birth of their daughter, Kristy.
