James Harlan Starkey, age 81, of Ellijay, Georgia passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 19, 1942, to the late Richard and Helen Starkey. James was strong in his faith and served the lord faithfully. He was a member of Church of Our Redeemer in Marietta and attended St. Luke's in Blueridge with his wife for many years.
James was a lover of bluegrass music. He could play the fiddle, mandolin, and many instruments, and he just had to hear them be played so that he could recreate the sound. James was a great carpenter and woodworker. He enjoyed the camping, fishing, and anything outdoors. James had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes and teaching his grandchildren pranks.
James loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them when he could. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
James is survived by his wife of 54 and a half years, Kay Starkey, son, Andy (Shannon) Starkey, daughter in law; Patricia Starkey, brother; Jerry Starkey, grandchildren; Dana, Ashley, Corey, Austin, Brynn, Tyler and Katie.
James is preceded in death by his sons, Jeffery Starkey and Eric Starkey.

A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, GA 30152. The funeral service will occur after the visitation on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 12:00 PM. His burial will occur Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Kennesaw Memorial Park, 1306 Whitlock Ave SW, Marietta, GA 30064.
