James and his shipmates were providing gun support while our brave troops were raising our Flag on Iwo Jima. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon with five stars, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star. James will always be remembered as an American Hero of The Greatest Generation.
James was of the Methodist faith and a member of Kennesaw United Methodist Church. His civilian working career was spent in the Telephone industry, first with C&P Telephone, then Contel, and he finished his career with Verizon as their Vehicle and Safety Manager. After retiring, James continued to serve his community in the East Cobb Kiwanis and the Golden K Kiwanis in Marietta. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling and his weekly golf group. James will truly be missed by all who had the great pleasure to have known him.
