James Newman Jr., 73 years old, a beloved husband, father, grand-father, great grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on November 3, 2022. He was the son of the late James Sr. and Blanche Newman. He was born in Washington, DC on March 19, 1949.
He attended primary and secondary school within the District of Columbia public school systems and completed his education with a degree. James served in the US Army where he was deployed to the Vietnam War. He spent 2 years in Vietnam fighting for the interest of his country. The stories of his time and experiences there has been shared with his family and friends over the years. He received medals for National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, Army Commendation and Good Conduct.
James married the love of his life Rebecca Crawford. Their union withstood the test of time and lasted more than 50 years. The couple share four children. They moved from Washington, DC to Los Angeles, California in the 70’s. The sunshine and beauty of the state suited him. He often spoke of his desire to return one day. The couple later returned to the DC area to help care for his elderly parents. Naturally curious and enthusiastic, James acted upon his interest in computers. This led to a prestigious career in the IT field including roles in computer programming, systems design, and development as well as group management. He ultimately moved with his family to Woodstock, Georgia in the early nineties. He has lived in the Atlanta area for about 30 years.
James was preceded in death by his mother and father, Blanche and James Newman, Sr., and his son, James Edward Newman III.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his daughters, Tonya (spouse Sergio), Lynette Taylor (spouse Rodrigue), and Christina Newman; five grandchildren: Ashley, Jasmine,Cortez, Elvia, and Jaidyn; three great grandchildren: Josiah, Joel, Kyla, and Jaylen.James’s siblings Brian, Vivian, Joseph, Monte, Andre, Reggie, and cousin Carolyn.
