James Richard Hughes, age 82, of Dallas, Georgia passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022. James was born February 9, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia to Leila Mae Duke Hughes and Samuel Jesse Hughes. James was a member at New Beginnings Church in Cartersville. He was an avid sports fan, he loved to play and coach sports especially softball. He also enjoyed traveling, working in his yard and eating his favorite desserts. James was known to be a jokester and loved to spend time with his family and friends. Most importantly James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed by all.
James is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia 'Pat' Nell Hughes; his daughters, ; Lisa Potts (Mike) of Dallas, Georgia; Rhonda Harvey (Ben) of Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia; Jami Pumphrey (Arnold) of Dallas, Georgia; his grandchildren; Kayla Weddington, Jimmy Harvey, Benjamin Harvey, Nick Potts, Nicole Kimmons, Rebecca Harvey, Aaron Pumphrey and his great grandchildren; Chip Weddington, Bo Weddington, Marcus Harvey and one additional one on the way.
James was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Jesse Hughes and his mother, Leila Mae Duke Hughes; his sister, Evelyn Gillis; and his brothers, Jack Hughes and Henry Hughes.
A visitation for James will be held Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Following the funeral service James will be laid to rest in Pineridge Memorial Park, 2950 Cobb Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, GA 30152-2606.
