Herbert Hans Baumbach, 78, of Acworth, Ga., was born on August 16, 1944, in Rochester, New York. He died on February 6, 2023, at Tranquility Hospice in Marietta, Ga. he died of natural causes peacefully in his sleep. Herb was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather who lived a fulfilling and joyful life.
Herb graduated from Florida State University and was a proud Seminole. Following college he attended flight training school at Laredo Air Force Base, Texas, flying T-37 and T-38 Trainer aircraft. From there he and his wife moved to Orlando, Fl. Where he flew The KC- 135 Aerial Refueling aircraft. Upon completion of his Air Force commitment, he was hired by Delta Air Lines where he flew for 30 years, flying a multitude of aircraft, retiring on the 767-400 as Captain.
Herb loved football, a good cookout, and a swim in the pool. He loved his family most of all and cherished his time with his four children and nine grandchildren. He had a deep and abiding faith which sustained him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erich and Ella (Kujat) Baumbach.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Valerie Linda Baumbach; his sons: Robert Baumbach and Matthew (Megan) Baumbach; his daughters: Hilary (Chad) Goldizen and Melissa (Craig) Roberts; nine grandchildren: Gabrielle Baumbach, Jacqueline Baumbach, Brookeleigh Goldizen, Luke Goldizen, Shaylyn Goldizen, Belle Roberts, Kaitlyn Roberts, Austin Roberts, and Jaiden Baumbach.
He is also survived by his brother, Rudy (Kris) Baumbach and nephew, Nik Baumbach.
Mr. Baumbach will have a graveside service at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 2:30 pm. With Senior Pastor Matt Petty officiating. He will be missed by all but his positive and loving influence on all whom he touched will live on for generations.
