Mrs. Helen Lorene Huckins, age 90, of Kennesaw, GA, died of heart failure on Friday, August 10, 2012. Funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock pm Tuesday at Kennesaw United Methodist Church, with Rev. Wallace Wheeles officiating. Interment will be at Pine Ridge Memorial Park. Mrs. Huckins will lie in state from 1 pm till 2 pm at the church. Family will receive friends from 5 till 8 pm Monday at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw.
Born Aug 6, 1922, Mrs. Huckins grew up on a farm near Perry, Iowa. She met her future husband, Ben Huckins, while attending business college in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in various cities across the United States from Maryland to California before moving to Georgia in 1970. She was passionate about her flower gardens and putting together jig saw puzzles. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her grandchildren. She & Ben were very active members of the Georgia POW/MIA organization. She was also a long time active member of Kennesaw United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Huckins, and son, Benjamin F. Huckins, Jr. Last week she celebrated her 90th birthday with family, and had recently learned to use her new iPad.
Survivors:
2 daughters – Bettelu &(Roger) Baker of Rochester, Minnesota; Bonnie & (Marshall) Neely of Wildwood, Georgia.
10 Grandchildren
7 great grandchildren.
