So sorry to hear about Gerry . Great memories of him and his whole family . All so nice to us  neighborhood boys .

Maxine and family,  We were saddened to hear of Gerry's death. My brother, sister and I well remember visiting together at Grandma Griffith's house as children.  We are sorry for your loss.

Hi family, I am sorry that I missed the funeral to pay my respects to Gerry. We just got back from Destin today.I remember Gerry as an intense yet gentle man at the same time. I enjoyed playing football with him and his , never lower your aggressiveness , has always impacted me. My prayers are with you. God bless, Joel Addison

Dee, Mrs. Upchurch, Celia, David, & Ken - I remember playing football in the backyard of the Upchurch house with Gerry and lots of other neighborhood boys. Those were some great childhood memories. Was saddened to hear of his passing and know your hearts are heavy! Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers! God Bless!

Gerry was a great brother. Of course he only started hanging out with me in high school when I had pretty friends!  Lol.   We had so much fun growing up and so many memories that I will always cherish. Will miss him SO much but am glad he is no longer suffering. He fought a long hard battle with the nasty disease called cancer but I know he was tired.   Gone but never forgotten!  Love - "C Bolt". ( he always called me C Bolt - never knew why!  But was fine with me!)

I enjoyed every minute I was with Gerry as he supervised the construction of our Zaxby's stores in lower Alabama.  He was a fine man, laughing and talking about his family. He was very courageous to the end.

Just loved looking through all the photos of a life well lived, surrounded by family and friends and wonderful memories of good times together. Cousin Vickie and Rebecca spoke so fondly of his courage as he fought the good fight. Rebecca has obviously inherited some of his strength. We are sorry for the family's loss as it's never easy to say goodbye to loved ones, as I lost my own father this year, but their memories live on in the stories we share. Gerry built two Zaxby's restaurants for us in South Alabama as a superintendent for PaceSetter Construction.  He was such a great guy, worked very hard and did an outstanding job for me and my family.  I was proud to call Gerry a friend!  This breaks my heart, we will miss you Gerry!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Gerry's passing!  My thoughts and prayers go out to the families.  I just  had a flashback to playing kick the can in the Upchurch's front yard as a child.

I first met Gerry years ago while he was Superintendent on one of the many Zaxby's.  I quickly learned he was one of the the good guys!  His jobs were always top notch, and he was always quick with a laugh.   We swapped many family and work stories over the years and I he became one of my favorite "construction family" members.  Gerry was an awesome person and will be missed by all.  I am blessed for having known him.  As hard as it is to let go, I am glad he no longer suffers. I went to high school with Gerry and I haven't seen him since. We were the only two students in our class with last names that started with U. Gerry was always a very sweet person and I have fond memories of him. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
