Emma Marie Gibson

Emma Marie Horton Gibson, 92, of Kennesaw, GA died Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Cartersville Heights from complications of dementia. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11:00 am at Winkenhofer Funeral Home in Kennesaw, GA.

Born December 29, 1921 in Big Stone Gap, VA, Emma was the 8th of 9 children of Charles E. Horton (1879-1967) & Margaret E. Lawson (1879-1963)of Big Stone Gap, VA. She married Maynard Gibson, Jr. (1916-2004) in 1940 & had two sons, Ronald & Darryl.

Ms. Gibson was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Lillie, Minnie, Ora, Bessie, Hoyt, Margaret, Lois, & Mary Magdalene & both her sons Ronald Lynn Gibson (1941-2012) & Darryl Horton Gibson (1948-2006). She is survived by granddaughters Rachel Lynette Gibson (TN) & Glena Haynes Weeks (MS) & three great grandchildren.

Emma retired as a foreign exchange banker in Marietta, GA was an avid reader & had a notorious sweet tooth. Proud of her Virginia heritage, Gibson liked to remind people that 8 presidents were born in her home state. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10-11am at the funeral home.
