Elizabeth “Libby” Frances Higgins, 96, of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away December 31, 2022 with her loving daughter, Susan Latham, by her side. Libby was born in Ashland, West Virginia and raised in nearby Slab Fork by her parents, John Josef and Mary Anna Poloski as one of 8 children. Following her graduation from Sophia High School in Raleigh County, WV, Libby went to work for the U.S. Census Bureau before meeting the love of her life Ted Higgins in 1946. The two were married in 1947 and lived all over the world over the next 22 years of Ted’s career in the United States Air Force. Upon his retirement from the USAF in 1969, Ted and Libby moved to Kennesaw, Ga where they built a life with their two children, Bruce and Susan, and began their invaluable roles within the community. They joined St. Paul United Methodist Church the same year where they both maintained very active roles in ministry. Libby was very passionate about her church family and enjoyed her role in the Joy Circle and various other womens’ groups. Libby was a bright light in her community and took pride in being involved with several hobbies including sewing, puzzles, cooking, hosting, baking, and playing bridge and other various card games with friends. Above all, Libby lived for her family, and although life won’t look the same without her here on earth, we are grateful to God for giving us 96 wonderful years of love and cherished memories. Libby is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Randolph Higgins; her siblings: Annie Skull, Jennie Shohet, Helen Smith, Bertha Hollandsworth, John Poloski, Madeline Altimus and Wanda Johnson. She is survived by her son, Bruce Higgins of Winder and daughter, Susan Latham of Marietta; grandchildren Nicholas Higgins (Teri) of Winder, Meredith Bramlett of Marietta, Heather Higgins of Winder, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces/nephews.
