On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, Douglas Steven Stanley, loving husband and father, passed away in Marietta, Georgia at the age of 75. Doug was born on February 15, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Syd and Bettye Stanley.
As a young child, Doug and his family moved to south Florida. He was raised in Miami and spent his youth swing dancing and working on Chevys. In December of 1978 he met his future wife, Elaine Bonvissuto, and on October 27, 1981 they were married and enjoyed life together for the next thirty-seven years.
Doug enjoyed his work as a supply clerk in the airline industry for forty-two years, as it gave him many opportunities for travel, to include regular trips around Europe snow skiing. At home in Miami, he enjoyed playing tennis, water skiing, and boating, as well as relaxing while tending to his garden and landscaping. A meticulous gardener, Doug cultivated a gorgeous array of flowers and was particularly fond of his precious roses. Doug was also a talented cook and grill master, and had a unique ability to create the most delicious, ornate, and aesthetically pleasing salads, a skill he learned as a teenager while working in the Adirondack Mountains.
In 2015, Doug became seriously ill, but fought a hard battle and beat his cancer diagnosis. As a fighter and survivor, he diligently followed his kidney dialysis routine and enjoyed three more years with his family. While the last several months were extremely difficult, Doug remained the same compassionate husband, father, brother, and grandfather he always was, and although he will be greatly missed, his family takes comfort in the knowledge that he is no longer suffering.
Doug is survived by his wife Elaine Stanley; daughter Carla (J.M.) Gerlach; stepmother Lottie Sperber; brothers Dennis (Carol) Stanley and Ken (Sarah) Stanley; sisters Joan Stanley and Nancy Stanley; and grandchildren Anthony, Marilu, Zachary, Colette, and Kelly Gerlach.
A Funeral service to honor Doug Stanley will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at one o’clock in the afternoon at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, GA 30152.
The family will receive friends for visitation two hours prior to the service. Deacon Norm Keller will be officiating. Please share condolences and fond memories to the family at www.winkenhoferpineridgefuneralhome.com
