Dorothea Virginia Lyons

Mrs. Dorothea Virginia Lyons, age 90, of Stone Mountain, Georgia passed on January 6, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm Saturday , January 11, 2014 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw.

Born to Reverend William Spratlen Sr. and Lela Dobbis in Union City, Tennessee, Mrs. Lyons graduated from the Tennessee State College. After Ms. Dorothea Lyons graduated college she later joined a graduate chapter of the AKA sorority. During her professional life she was employed as a counselor and reading specialist in the Cleveland Metropolitan School System. She was President of the Junior Women’s League in Cleveland, OH and was one of the founders of the Lutheran Metropolitan Ministries in Cleveland. She additionally served on the board of the Lutheran Human Relations Association, was a member of St. Philips Lutheran Church and served as a Den Mother in the Boy Scouts. She enjoyed reading and music during her spare time. She loved to travel and she enjoyed photography.

2 Son – Carlton and Cynthia Lyons of Acworth, GA; James Spratlen, Los Angeles, CA

2 daughters – Carol Lyons of Marietta, GA (formally of Cleveland) and Sherri and Guenther Spelic of Austria.

Brother – Thaddeus Spratlen of Seattle, WA

6 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives.

Family will receive friends from 3 till 4 Saturday at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge FH.
