Ralph ‘David’ Patterson of Kennesaw passed away peacefully in his home on August 18th. David was born in 1945 to John and Gladys Patterson of Canton, Ga. Their family later moved to Marietta, which is where David considered his home. He was a 1963 graduate of Sprayberry High School and a 1972 graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens. From the early 70s to mid 80s, David was a volunteer firefighter and EMT/cardiac technician for Metro Ambulance Service in Atlanta. Passionate about videography and sound, David taught television and film production at U.G.A. from 1972 to 1979 and 1989 to1991, then at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta from 2004 to 2018. He worked for a number of foreign and domestic TV and radio stations and with hundreds of production companies on media projects, including ‘Lawmakers’ on Georgia Public Television.
David is survived by his five children Christie (Jeff) Bryant, Mary Beth Borders, John Patterson, Ben Patterson and Patrick Patterson; his nine grandchildren; his ex-wife Mary Jean Patterson and his dear friend Lisa Larson. He was loving and devoted to his family and friends and will be remembered as a engaging storyteller and for his steel-trap mind for information and trivia.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 20th, 2018 at 1pm at Marietta First Baptist Church, 148 Church Street, with Dr. Bill Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Long Swamp Baptist Church in Marble Hill, Ga.
Family, friends, and others whose lives David touched are invited to greet the Patterson family at the Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw from 2 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, August 19th.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made towards a Memorial Tree from Trees Atlanta for David
Patterson.
