She was born on December 1, 1929 in Stettin, Germany to Osweid and Maria Theresa (Kohnheim) Morawitz. She had 6 sisters.
Christa came to the United States in 1963 following her marriage to Virgil Couch, who served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. They settled in suburban Detroit, Michigan. They later moved to Kennesaw, Georgia. Following Virgil’s death in 1989, Christa met Hans Heckel. The couple married in 1995 and resided in Kennesaw until his death in 2011.
She is survived by a daughter, Uta Killian, Munich, Germany, a sister, Brigitte Plesivac, Hamburg, Germany, as well as a niece and a nephew, also residents of Germany. She lived at Camellia Place, Woodstock, Georgia where she had many friends and received compassionate care as a resident. She was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Woodstock, GA.
A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd, 1208 Rose Creek Drive, Woodstock, Georiga 30189, on Thursday, July 20 at 11:00 am. A lunch will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
