She was born to Charles and Martha Hancock on September 1, 1959 in Marietta, Georgia and grew up in the Smyrna/Marietta area.
Caroline was the type of person who would give the shirt off of her back to those in need. She was very kind, loyal, and giving.
Caroline enjoyed the outdoors. You could often find her warming herself in the sun by the lake, on the beach, or in the mountains. She loved flowers, plants, and tended to her vegetable garden in her yard.
Caroline loved her family and cherished holidays as a special time to celebrate being together with them. She enjoyed her social life as well and made sure to play her monthly bunco game with the girls. She was also very well read and enjoyed playing her favorite game, Monopoly. She was so good at it, everyone started to jokingly refuse to play with her.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond "Tony" Godwin; sons, Nathan Singleton and his wife, Danielle, of Marietta and TJ Godwin of Atlanta; daughter, Jenny Hopkins and her husband, Rick, of Dallas; brother, Jim Hancock and his wife, Kathy, of Gainesville; and sister, Mary Gibson and her husband, David, of Crossville, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Friday, November 20, 2015 from 11:00 am until service time at 12:00 pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw. Interment will follow promptly at 2:30 pm (arrive by 2:15 pm if attending) at the Georgia National Cemetery 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road Canton, Georgia 30114.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Caroline's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.
