Bobby Franklin Farmer passed away August 3, 2023 surrounded by his loving family and went to his Heavenly home. Born July 31, 1935 in Smyrna, Georgia, Bobby grew up in Southwest Atlanta attending Brown High School where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Barbara Farmer.
Bobby graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1958 with a degree in Industrial Engineering and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He later returned to Georgia Tech receiving his Masters in Industrial Management. While attending Georgia Tech, he began working as a co-op student at Lockheed Aeronautical where he enjoyed a 41 year professional career.
Bobby’s most significant passion in life was his Heavenly Father and earthly family. If asked, he would say his greatest life achievement was his wife, Barbara; their son, David (and his wife, Mallory), and their daughter, Lisa (and her husband, Mitch); and their families including his six grandchildren and three great grandchildren whom he adored.
An avid sports fan, Bobby cheered for Georgia Tech Athletics and attended thousands of sporting events his grandchildren participated in. He loved to play golf and achieved 3 hole-in-ones in his retirement years. Another significant love of Bobby’s was serving in his church community and participating for many years in a couple’s life group and men’s’ Bible study.
Over three decades, Bobby served in many leadership capacities at Eastside Baptist Church, Marietta. In 1998, he became a board of director and founding member at North Metro Church, Marietta, Georgia. Bobby will be remembered for his strong influence, faithfulness, steadfastness, and generosity.
Left to cherish Bobby’s life are his wife, Barbara Farmer; son, David (Mallory) Farmer; daughter, Lisa (Mitch) Waters; sister-in-law, Joan Davis; brother, Stuart (Debbie) Farmer; six grandchildren, Austin (Adriana) Farmer, Regan (Jordan) Farmer, Kristen Farmer, Zachary (Jacqui) Waters, Caroline (Graham) Rodgers, and Drew Waters; three great grandchildren - Noa Waters, Rowan Waters, and Adalyn Rodgers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 1 p.m. at North Metro Church, 2305 Barrett Pkwy NW, Marietta, GA 30064. Visitation and a reception will follow the service.
