Betty Hamby, 77, of Acworth, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 8, 2022, following a brief illness. Betty was born in Dalton, Georgia on March 9, 1945. Betty was the daughter of the late Darius and Mary Downey Pendley. She was a longtime member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Betty retired, after more than thirty years of service, as a mail carrier in Acworth. A loving wife and mother, she especially enjoyed being “Nana” and having tea parties with her grandbabies. Betty loved to travel, especially to Florida, and she enjoyed fishing. Her daughter, Darlene Olschewske, preceded her in death in 2020.
Betty is survived by her husband of more than sixty years, Larkin Hamby; her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Rebecca Hamby; her son-in-law, Kent Olschewske; her grandchildren, Amber (Steven) Koreny, Bryson Higgins, Blake (Taylor) Olschewske, and Joe (Savannah) Olschewske; her great-grandchildren, Amara, Parker, and Caroline; her sisters, Carolyn Kemp, Linda (Jimmy) Burkes, and Delores Pendley; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The Hamby family will receive friends on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Parkway, Kennesaw.
The funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., from the chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home. Pastor Stacey Nicholson will officiate. Committal services will follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Greg Hamby, Wesley Lawrence, Mike Hamby, Mike Burkes, Wally Bryson, and Vick Cotton.
