“Uncle B, can you take us to school?”
“Uncle B, can you watch and feed our dog while we go out of town?”
It was always my brother, Barry Pack, aka Uncle B, who was there to answer the call through the years. He was there for his nieces, Autumn and Natalee; his nephews, Hunter, Carson and Brandon; and our many pets, Bama, Champ, Roxie, Roscoe and Yogi. Whenever we called, Uncle B almost always said yes.
He was there for me, Dexter Leslie, III and my wife Bonnie.
Barry Pack, son of Lois Hopper and James Pack, was born March 15, 1947, in Birmingham, Alabama. A few years later, Barry came with his mom, Lois, as she was remarried to Dexter Leslie, Jr. When Barry was 5 years old, I was born. Barry was my big brother. He has been there for me 70 years. He was also big brother to my sister, Candy, and uncle to her children, Josh, Evan, Ian and Hattie.
Barry was believed to have had “Roll Tide” written on his birth certificate because Alabama football was his lifelong team and sports passion. He even had Bama bedroom slippers!
He was a licensed barber and for several years had his own shop at Johnson Ferry and Roswell Rd. Later he retired from barbering and went to work for Cobb County as a custodian. He retired from Cheatham Hill
Elementary where he was loved by teachers and students. All the while Uncle B was there for us any time we needed him.
Uncle B passed away July 12, 2022. What in the world will we do without him? Barry, our brother and uncle, cannot be there for us, but he will be there in our hearts.
We will sorely miss Uncle B.
For those who will be attending the service, casual dress has been requested.
