Amelia (Millie) Julia Stukes, 95, of Acworth, joined our loving Creator on Monday January 27, 2020. She was born February 18, 1924, in Hillside, New Jersey, to Charles and Julia Urbine. She married Peter Stukes (deceased) on January 26, 1947.
Surviving are her two sons, Gary Stukes (wife Cathy) of Long Valley, New Jersey and Raymond Stukes (wife Gina) of Powder Springs, Georgia; and her two daughters, Judy Geary (husband John) of Panther Valley, New Jersey, and Lori Derkay (husband Howard) of Acworth, Georgia; 9 Grandchildren, and 3 Great Grandchildren.
Amelia’s mother, father, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters preceded her in death.
Amelia was a long time resident of Hillside, New Jersey and active participant in the community. Amelia was the President of the Hillside Little League, active in supporting the local Pop Warner program, and youth softball coach. Amelia moved to Georgia after the death of her husband to live with her daughter, Lori Derkay, and her husband Howard Derkay.
Millie was a loved member of the Acworth community, establishing close ties with the local athletic community through her grandchildren Pete and Katey Derkay.
Millie loved to garden, work in the yard, play scrabble with her best friend Doyce Caputo, and read the newspaper cover-to-cover. Her no-nonsense, genuine approach and timely sense of humor endeared her to all who came in contact with her.
The life celebration is from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, at Northstar Church True North Building 3413 Blue Springs Road NW, Kennesaw, Georgia. The funeral service will be the following weekend at 9:45 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at Queen of Peace in North Arlington, New Jersey. Father Michael Donovan will be officiating. The burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
