It is with great sadness that the family of Debbie Faye Edwards announces her passing suddenly, at the age of 65 years, on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. Debbie will be lovingly remembered by Life Partner Jerry Stacey. She had two daughters, April (David) Kattawar and Amy (Edward) Brand, and five grandchildren, Kennedy, Kelan, Addison, Aldon, Deacon. She will also be forever remembered by her best friends, Raye Gordon Bear and Joanne and Kieth Simpson, as well as her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends.
Debbie was born in Meridian, MS on February 14, 1953. She is survived by her brother, Albert Gammill, Jr. and is preceded in death by her parents, Sallie Barrett Weathers and Albert Gammill, Sr. and her grandparents, Frank and Mattie Lou Barrett.
For many years, Debbie owned her own business as a Licensed Cosmetologist. She retired from Avery Dennison and Legacy Homes of Gautier, Lynchburg Landing in Ocean Springs. She volunteered her time at organizations such as The Lord is My Help, Soup Kitchen and The Shelter for Battered Women along with numerus fund raisers to help serve others. She will be remembered by her bright smile and laughter. Her vibrant personality, high energy, and love of life added to so many. Her love of life and legacy can be seen through her daughters and grandchildren, especially her passion to serve other and special gift of giving.
She was a member of the Tri City Pool Association, Loyal Order of the Moose. She enjoyed entertaining, dressing up, bringing friends together with food, laughter, good old southern cooking, and riding her Harley Davison, to list a few.
All are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life, which will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Mosaic Church Chapel, 2016 Bienville Blvd, Ocean Springs, MS 39564. Visitation with the family begins at 11:00 AM and continues until 12:30 PM, with a Memorial Service at 12:45 PM, reception to follow. Family will have a designated room that we are inviting all friends and family to take a moment in to share special memories of Debbie, to extend her legacy with loved ones for years to come. This will create a lasting legacy for Debbie’s family and her young grandchildren to laugh and enjoy her love of life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the non-profit organization, TEAAM, which is dedicated to improving the lives of Mississippians with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities etc. TEAAM also provides a summer camp programs for children and adults with Autism. The donations will support Autism awareness and offer financial assistance to Debbie’s grandchildren, Aldon and Deacon, and to any other children in need, so that they may attend the summer camp program.
