Mary Isabel Warburton died on Monday, April 29, 2024, at McAuley Residence, Kenmore, New York. She was born on July 17, 1933, in Runcorn, Chesire, England, the daughter of the late Charles Wilkinson and Edith Munro Wilkinson.
Mary worked and lived through WWII recounting numerous times she had to enter bomb shelters. She was married to Ronald Warburton and immigrated to the United States in 1955, ultimately settling in the Buffalo area. She was very active the Britannia Club, celebrating British traditions and music. She treasured her Scottish background and loved to hear the bagpipes. She was a descendant of Clan Munro.
Mary was a kind and gentle person. She enjoyed conversing with anyone she met along the way, laughing, joking, and carrying on. This also was a way for her to talk to others about the Lord. Mary’s faith in God was always very strong. She possessed the infamous British sense of humor and had many interesting sayings that we all treasure.
Mary was quite athletic and enjoyed bowling and playing darts. She loved English Football, and her favorite team was Manchester United. As a young girl, she enjoyed going to see the local football team, the Runcorn Linnets with her father. She enjoyed watching golf and was an ardent fan of the NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills. She always enjoyed going on long walks along the river on Grand Island.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Warburton, her infant daughter Edith Mary Warburton, her brothers Donald Wilkinson and Malcolm Wilkinson, and her sisters Doris Rawlins and Rita Boote.
Mary is survived by her three loving sons, Gordon Stuart (Sally) of Marion, North Carolina, Gregory Charles of Buffalo and Geoffrey Alan Warburton (Kristin) of Rochester; her brother Gordon Wilkinson (Val) of Hawarden, Wales; six grandchildren, Andrew (Dorothy), Caroline, Lindsey, Madeline, Mariah, and Maggie Warburton and many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom.
The funeral service will be held on Friday May 3, 2024 at St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, 2587 Baseline Rd, Grand Island, NY 14072 at 12 noon. Receiving of friends will also be at the church Friday May 3, 2024 from 11 am to noon. There will be a private graveside service following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, 2587 Baseline Rd, Grand Island, NY 14072.
